This Week's Featured Album: Leprous - Tall Poppy Syndrome

One of the latest releases from Sensory Records, Leprous's Tall Poppy Syndrome is a disc filled with some extreme progressive metal that definitely falls on the heavier spectrum of the genre. There's plenty of guttural vocals, near screams, and loads of distortion throughout the album. They manage to craft a sound that is similar to plenty of the heavier bands in the genre (Opeth especially), but nonetheless stands out as having a sound all its own thanks to the brief additions of jazz piano and 70s prog influences.

Unfortunately, this one isn't available on Amazon, so the widget won't be of any use this week. However, you can find some samples over at the Leprous MySpace Page. While you're there, take a look at the influences section, which is definitely an interesting set of musicians.
